Speaker_picture_38 Mike Brophy -- Michael Brophy is a professional genealogical researcher, columnist and lecturer in the Boston area. He is currently Publicity Director of the Massachusetts Genealogical Council and a past Treasurer of the New England Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists. He has completed coursework for Irish Genealogical Research, English Research, and Professional Genealogy at the Institute of Genealogy and Historic Research at Samford University, Birmingham Alabama. Active memberships include: the New England Historic and Genealogical Society, The Irish Ancestral Research Association (TIARA), and the Association of Professional Genealogists. He holds an MBA degree from Suffolk University (1996) and a BBA from the University of Massachusetts- Amherst (1987). Website is www.brophygen.com Brophy first became interested in genealogy about seven years ago when the death of a relative caused his cousin to compile information on the maternal side of his family tree. ”So I talked to my dad and said, ’What do we know about the Brophy family history?’’’ Brophy recalled. “He said, ‘Not much.’’’ And so began Brophy’s digging through archives of old ship passenger logs, manuscripts, newspaper clippings and official records, through which he traced the Brophy surname back more than 200 years to its Irish roots. In 2004, Brophy decided to turn his fascination with research into a business. He now spends about 30 hours a week researching for five or six client projects at a time.
Speaker_picture_43 Janis Duffy -- Janis P. Duffy is the Reference Supervisor at the Massachusetts State Archives. She developed the Outreach and Volunteer Program at the Archives. Janis is a member and Past-President of TIARA (The Irish Ancestral Research Association). She has been pursuing her Irish heritage for over 20 years. Janis has traveled many times to Ireland and Canada. She is a member of the Tiara team that has lead several tours to Ireland and Salt Lake City. Janis also lectures locally and nationally on many genealogy subjects especially the Irish and is a member of IGSI, NEHGS and NGS.Janis P. As both a professional genealogist and owner of CavaGenealogy, Michelina is firmly convinced that everybody can develop a passion for genealogy as long as it is portrayed as more than a collection of names of deceased family. These are individuals with a communion of stories, pictures and lessons to teach us. Specializing in Italian research and document translation, Michelina has spent countless hours helping to bring life to the ancestors of the clients she has worked for. Using today’s technology, and her creativity she has found new ways to help children and adults of all ages become involved in their family heritage.
Speaker_picture_31 Leslie Albrecht Huber -- Leslie Albrecht Huber is a freelance genealogical writer and speaker. She has a Bachelor’s degree in history, with an emphasis in German Family History, and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs. She worked as a professional German genealogist helping people find their German roots first through a large company and then through her own business. Leslie has spoken to genealogy societies and other groups at the local, state, regional, and national level. She has written nearly 100 articles that have appeared in over twenty different publications including History Channel Magazine, Family Chronicle, Internet Genealogy, Ancestry, Everton’s Genealogical Helper, Family Tree Magazine and others. Her first book, The Journey-Takers, will be published this summer. Leslie is also involved with several genealogy groups. She serves as the program chair for the national 2010 Palatines to America conference, the vice-president of the Worcester Chapter of Massachusetts Society of Genealogists, and is on the planning committee of NERGC (New England Regional Genealogy Conference). She is also a member of ISFHWE (International Society of Family History Writer and Editors) and the Genealogy Speakers Guild. Leslie lives in Belchertown, MA with her husband and four children. Besides writing and speaking about genealogy, she enjoys watching soccer games and piano recitals and doing cooking projects with her kids.

Speaker_picture_47 Marilyn Markham -- Marilyn Markham, AG, CG, MLS has worked in the Family History Department for twenty-five years, including at the Family History Library as a reference consultant for thirteen years. She has taught many times at the Family History Library and genealogical conferences, as well as New England family history research at Brigham Young University.
Speaker_picture_32 Carol P. McCoy, Ph.D. -- Carol Prescott McCoy, Ph.D. is a professional genealogist with her own business, Find-Your-Roots.com in Brunswick, Maine. She has been researching her own family for over 30 years and helping people to trace their roots for eight years. She has learned a lot about genealogy research in New England, NY, WV and in the Maritime Provinces. She enjoys teaching about genealogy and family history and is a popular speaker having presented at several conferences and at the University of Southern Maine Center for Continuing Education. She is a substitute faculty member for the Boston University Certificate Program in Genealogy. As past president of the Greater Portland Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society, she is leading a project to index the early deeds of Cumberland County, Maine. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogical Society, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, the Maine Historical Society and other organizations. She became interested in family history as a result of her wonderful story-telling grandparents, who also liked to take photographs. Carol became curious about the people in the pictures. She frequently speaks at conferences, societies and libraries on New England topics ranging from house history research, African American research and a broad range of genealogical topics. Marian is the Publicity Chairperson for the New England Regional Genealogical Conference (NERGC) and a member of the Membership Committee for the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). She has been working on her personal genealogy for over ten years and is currently working on a graduate degree in history from the Harvard Extension School. Speaker_picture_45 Varian Talbot -- Born and raised in Wyoming. Received a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wyoming. Raised a family of nine children and substituted in public schools. Served as a Ward Family History Consultant and on staff in a Family History Center for over 20 years. Done extensive research on her own lines, mainly in the US and assisted others with their research. Her area was one of the first to have New.FamilySearch available and she has been working in the program for a couple of years. Likes helping people get started doing family history.

Primary career was drilling oil wells and water wells. Secondary career teaching school and college classes in Wyoming and Maine. Major hobbies are genealogy plus mineral and fossil collecting. Have worked in genealogy for over 40 years. Family history center director in three libraries. Served as a family history center worker and as a family history consultant. Taught genealogy classes at U. of Wyoming. Written genealogies published in New Zealand and Australia. Currently teaching genealogy as part of his assignment at the Boston temple.
